Simple Chronology of the Mexican Revolution

1909-1911    Madero succesfuly builds movement to remove Diaz, wins elections, 
                      Diaz exiles him, calls for revolts, Diaz into exile, Madero brought to

                      presidency. 

1913              Madero overthrown and killed by previous Diaz supporters and Gen. 
                      Huerta with US embassy support. 

1913-1914    Different military factions, Madero supporters, and agrarian-based
                     movements fight Huerta's Federal Army and defeat it, US occupies port of 

                     Veracruz. 

1914-1915   Constitutionalist movement divides openly, failure of Villistas to forge 
                    alliance with Zapatistas in South, civil war. 

1915            Villista army defeated and remnants reduced to circumscribed action, 
                    Zapatista movement also attacked by new government. 

1916            Villa raids New Mexico, US invades northern Mexico.

1916            Consolidation of new consititionalist regime led by Carranza.

1917            New  Constitution 

1919            Zapata assasinated 

1920           Ouster of Carranza by more pragmatic, radical faction led by Obregon. 
                   Villa retires.
