Puerto Rican New Yorkers: Labor, Social and Political History, 1915-1975
Based on ten years of archival research this project will produce various written works and blogs on the history of the Puerto Rican community in New York City.
A first volume that covers through 1950 and focuses on early 20th Century migrants and their children is under contract with the University of North Carolina Press.
A second volume is in draft mode and will cover the history of post WWII migrants through the city’s fiscal crisis.
Puerto Ricans in New Jersey
As part of collaborative projects including a forthcoming book on Latinos in New Jersey, this research focuses on the history of Puerto Rican communities in New Jersey from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Migration and Dispersion: A Survey of Puerto Rican Migration and Early Communities, 1880s-1950s
With Professor Ismael Garcia Colon (College of Staten Island, CUNY) this work will summarize and present in a coherent framework all that we know so far about Puerto Rican emigration and early communities in the the Caribbean and the US. Our goal is to produce a short, synthetic book that will present new research on migration dynamics and communities.
The Political Economy of Puerto Rican Emigration
This work will produce a critique of explanations of the migration dynamics of Puerto Ricans in the 1940s through the 1960s in the context of Puerto Rico’s economic and social development.
